Now I already know what most of you are thinking, "Why are they called Military Brats?". Well it is because one or two of our parents are currently in the military full time. I do not know why they say "Brat" instead of "Child", maybe because we are special and deserve that name for all the stuff we go through? Maybe we have earned the title of "Brats" because we are tougher than a kid who does not have to move every couple of years, or see their parent leave for a war zone and pray to God they come back in one piece. Now someone who reads this that does not have a parent in the military would disagree and say that they have to watch their parents leave for business trips; but that does not involve your parents getting shot at. I wish my dad would just go on business trips, then I would be able to talk to him every night. Unlike when he deploys I get to talk to him every once in awhile.
I am not saying all kids are weak compared to Military Brats either. I just think we go through a lot in our lives more than a typical kid. Lets go back to the whole "moving" fact. Military Brats move every couple of years whether they want to or not. We have to say bye to loved ones, or friends and pray that we will find new ones who are the same as the old. I have friends all over the world, and family all over the country. Now some people may like the fact of moving because of "new starts", but "new starts", starts to get really old really quick. I have moved to 4 states in the past 8 years, and i became a military brat when I was 10 years old. I had lived in one state for 10 years before my mom and step dad got married in 2006. Imagine how many states I would have had to move to adding on the extra 10 years!
We go through a lot more than a typical child! We have a lot on our plate, we can not do certain things either. Everything a Military Brat does, effects their parents job. If I were to get pulled over for a ticket, my dad would get in trouble by his boss; FOR MY ACTIONS! Military Brats have to watch their backs as well now. Times are getting hard for people in the military and their families. We have been so called "trained" to be tough, to learn how to deal with things. We have to learn how to deal with heartbreak, and how to get over something real quick. Normal kids do not have to deal with any of that as much as we do. That is why I say Military Brats are a lot tougher than normal kids.
This is awesome!!! AND thank you for writing a lot - GET IT OUT!!! hahaha
ReplyDeleteOk, cool, so now we can follow each other... Just post 3 times a week. WooooHoooo!!
From a teaching stand point - I have to comment on your punctuation... You don't need 2 punctuations at the end of sentences "?." Like you have here: "Why are they called Military Brats?". <---- you only need the question mark ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
